First Few Days in Rio

Oi!
That's Hi in Brazil ;)

20092007(001).jpg
At the beach on my first day, sipping a cold Coconut juice, taking notes on rectangle aspect ratio calculations, and watching the boys play beach volleyball ;-)

I'm settling in, loving the new lifestyle. I'm eating really healthy food, and running along the footpath along the beach in the mornings. While not an 'untouched' beach (it IS a city beach) it's still beautiful and exciting, and bit like the Gold Coast I'd imagine.

I do feel decidedly pale running along, people have naturally dark complexions or they are black, and all have tans to boot. Interesting to watch the shop and sales people prepare themselves for the day, carting coconuts here and there, popping them in refrigerators etc. The mountains, esp the sugar loaf, make for a pretty backdrop too.

Still jet lagged. Came wide awake after just 4 hours sleep last night at 2am, and tossed till 4 when I decided to read a book on my laptop. Went to the local supermarket at 5.30, prices there are less than that of Australia, but not dirt cheap either.

Work wise, while it's a little curious for the other people staying in my room, I've got a pretty nice setup and I'm enjoying being on the plasq 'dev time' (at least when I'm not napping in the afternoon due to jet lag!) and I already feel more productive for it.

I just hope I don't get sick of fruit! It's cheap, fresh and abundant. Oh and I need to check the nutritional information for coconut water, I don't want to be sucking down too many calories each day!!

I'm feeling very close to nature, and I haven't had coffee in 3 days!

Random Angels

I was visited by one of those 'angels' this morning on the very first leg of my trip - a stranger on the train struck up conversation right after I got on and talked with me all the way through to Southern Cross. I think he even missed his stop as he backtracked to RMIT after we got off the train. I'm thinking cynically that meetings like this are going to become tiresome, but I'm glad of it this morning at any rate :) Made me think 'this is what it's all about' anyway.

This gem and many others to be found at the Paleo Future Blog

I'm really fascinated with this topic actually. I find I have had each 'dream' depicted in those drawings so beautifully, particularly the flying ones. I'm sure most have. They're so whimsical and practical and preposterous all at once.
